Amrullah Saleh: Pakistan Army has domestic support to attack Afghanistan

Mr. Saleh, by reposting a note that was recently published by the Green Trend movement, stated that Islamabad is pursuing a fresh strategy toward Afghanistan and the Taliban—a strategy grounded in five parallel and coordinated initiatives.


According to this analysis, Pakistan has for the first time explicitly tied its economic and commercial relations with Afghanistan to the political and security situation. Within this framework, keeping major border crossings closed has made the Taliban even more reliant on northern routes, including the Salang Highway, as well as on Iran—a situation that, per this assessment, severely heightens the Taliban's vulnerability.


Another section of the note addresses Pakistan's capability to conduct airstrikes inside Afghanistan and claims that Islamabad has effectively gained control over Afghan airspace. In contrast, the Taliban lack an effective air defense system and also do not possess the necessary international legitimacy to respond or garner global sympathy.


The analysis further states that, unlike in the past, the Pakistani military has managed to secure broad support and cohesion among political factions within the country for its military actions in Afghanistan. Saleh has also emphasized that the Pakistani military now enjoys extensive domestic support and greater coordination for carrying out airstrikes on Afghan soil.


This assessment additionally notes that Islamabad, alongside continuing its campaign against the Taliban, is working to gain the support of the international community. Based on this claim, Pakistan is simultaneously consulting with anti-Taliban forces regarding political arrangements and the nature of governance after the Taliban.


In the note's concluding section, Afghanistan under Taliban rule is described as a country lacking an effective government. The analysis also cites the Taliban's "arrogance, hubris, and political shortsightedness" in recent years as factors that, according to it, have squandered the opportunity to achieve a genuine, Afghan-centered solution.
