ISIS Khorasan claims responsibility for attack on Chinese restaurant in Kabul

The Amaq News Agency, affiliated with ISIS, announced in a statement on Monday (January 19) that a suicide bomber, after entering the Chinese restaurant in Kabul's Shar-e-Naw, detonated himself amid Chinese citizens and their guards.


This suicide attack took place around 3 p.m. on Monday in Kabul.


The Taliban, confirming the incident, reported that seven people were killed, including one Chinese citizen, and 13 others were injured. Meanwhile, the Emergency Hospital in Kabul stated that at least 20 injured individuals had been transferred to this medical center. According to the Taliban, Abdul Rahman, a resident of China's Xinjiang, was Muslim and was killed in this attack.


The ISIS-Khorasan branch claims that as a result of this attack, at least 25 people—including Chinese and Afghan citizens, as well as Taliban forces guarding the location—were killed and injured.


In a statement published by the Amaq News Agency, it is stated that targeting Chinese citizens was carried out due to what this group calls "China's behavior toward Uyghur Muslims."


It is said that this Chinese restaurant was jointly operated by a Chinese Muslim named Abdul Majeed, his wife, and an Afghan partner named Abdul Jabbar Mahmoud.
