Meta is working on an app that predicts future events

According to the report, Meta aims to compete with "prediction market" platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi through the development of this app—services that enable users to bet real money on the outcomes of future events. It is said that the initial version of this application will be designed based on a scoring system similar to video games; however, it is possible that real-money betting features may be added in the future.


The New York Times has also written that this product will be launched as a standalone application, separate from Meta's social networks, including Facebook and Instagram. The project is known internally at the company as "Arena" and is part of Meta's program to expand its independent products.


The report states that Meta may add other standalone applications, such as "Meta Photos," to this lineup in the future—an app that would allow users to generate new types of media content. Meta had previously introduced the standalone tool "Meta AI," which enables the creation and sharing of AI-generated images as well as the management of the company's smart glasses.


Prediction markets have seen remarkable growth in recent years, particularly alongside the 2024 U.S. presidential election, with users investing significant amounts on outcomes ranging from politics to sports. However, these markets have also faced criticism; detractors argue that these platforms amount to high-risk gambling and could even create opportunities for the misuse of insider information and trades based on confidential data.

A recent report indicates that Meta is developing a new application that allows users to predict future events and compete with each other. The New York Times has reported that this project was initiated with direct support from Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO.
