US media: Trump administration seeks to weaken Cuba's current leadership

According to informed American sources, the Trump administration has yet to arrive at a specific plan for Cuba; however, recent developments in Latin America, particularly the harsh approach toward the Venezuelan government, are regarded by U.S. officials as a warning message for Havana.


Based on these reports, U.S. officials have held meetings in recent months with Cuban exile groups in the United States and some civil society organizations to identify individuals within Cuba's power structure who might be inclined to engage in dialogue with the United States.


Donald Trump has previously announced his hardline stance toward Cuba and warned that opportunities would be lost in the absence of engagement.


Meanwhile, a number of analysts believe that the power structure in Cuba enjoys a high degree of cohesion. Ricardo Zuniga, a former U.S. diplomat, has stated that finding a political partner within the Cuban government for Washington is no easy task.

Some American media outlets have reported that the United States government, under the leadership of Donald Trump, has launched fresh efforts to bring about change in Cuba's governing structure.
