Taliban report burning more than 10 tons of drugs in Farah

Khalimullah Nangial, the spokesman for the Taliban police in Farah, stated that the destroyed substances in total included 34 types of narcotics. Afghanistan's National Television, which operates under Taliban control, published these statements on Thursday, 12 Sunbula.


Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman, spoke on Wednesday during a press conference about the group's activities in combating narcotics. He claimed that the Taliban's Ministry of Interior conducted more than 46,000 anti-narcotics operations in the past solar year, during which 13,326 people were arrested and 2,159 tons of intoxicating substances were discovered.


Mujahid also stated that 21,569 hectares of land used for narcotic cultivation had been cleared and 533 narcotic production factories had been demolished.


These statements come as the Taliban have repeatedly spoken of "zeroing out" the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics in Afghanistan; however, reports of ongoing operations to discover, seize, and destroy narcotics continue to be published. Following the ban on poppy cultivation in 2022, the Taliban have cited the destruction of poppy fields as one of their major achievements and have emphasized their success in this area in both domestic and international forums.



Local Taliban officials in Farah province have announced that they have destroyed more than 10 tons of various narcotic substances that had been discovered and seized during various operations over the past 10 months. According to them, these substances had fallen into the hands of Taliban forces from the center of Farah and the districts of this province.
