Afghan Liberation Front: Taliban have killed more than 120 former soldiers in the past year

This front stated in its report on Thursday (January 1) that the detention, torture, and killing of former security forces, despite the announcement of a general amnesty and simultaneous with the expulsion of a number of former military personnel from Iran, has increased.


Based on this report, the aforementioned statistics were compiled after verification by families and relying on documents and evidence from local sources; however, due to severe censorship and fear among families, the actual number of victims is likely higher than this.


The Freedom Front of Afghanistan has stated that cases of killings, detentions, and torture of former military personnel have been recorded in a number of provinces in the country, especially in the central and northern regions, areas where armed groups opposed to the Taliban are also active.


The report states that former security forces, after being detained, have faced torture and ill-treatment in Taliban prisons. According to the statistics of this front, in the past year, at least 131 former military personnel have been tortured, and some of them remain in detention.


Additionally, the Freedom Front of Afghanistan has attributed the assassination of General Ekramuddin Sazi, the former commander of the Afghan police, in Tehran, to the Taliban.


Despite these reports, the Taliban has consistently denied the killing and detention of military personnel from the previous government and emphasizes the implementation of a general amnesty. Nevertheless, international organizations and reputable media have repeatedly reported on the continuation of arbitrary detentions and retaliatory killings of former security forces after the fall of Kabul.


Based on reports from UNAMA and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, from August 2021 to July 2023 alone, the Taliban has been responsible for hundreds of cases of killings, torture, enforced disappearances, and arbitrary detentions of officials and security forces from the previous government, most of whom were members of the army, police, and national security.


Additionally, in 2025, several United Nations agencies have confirmed in their official reports that violations of the rights of former Afghan military and security personnel under Taliban administration continue.

The Freedom Front of Afghanistan has stated in a report that in 2025, at least 123 members of the military from the previous Afghan government have been killed by the Taliban.
