Venezuela's Supreme Court appoints Delcy Rodriguez as interim president

According to a Reuters news agency report, the Constitutional Chamber of Venezuela's Supreme Court emphasized in a ruling that this decision was taken with the aim of preventing a power vacuum and ensuring the continuity of government administration. The text of the ruling states that Rodríguez will assume the presidency of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to maintain administrative stability and defend national interests.


The Supreme Court also announced that legal reviews to determine the legal mechanism for governing the country during the president's enforced absence are ongoing; a process intended to establish the necessary framework for the continuity of government institutions and the preservation of national sovereignty.


Meanwhile, Donald Trump, President of the United States, had previously announced a phone call between the U.S. Secretary of State and Venezuela's Vice President. According to Trump, this call was made by Marco Rubio with the aim of helping Venezuela return to its "past greatness."


At the same time, reports emerged about Delcy Rodríguez's presence in Russia; a claim that has been denied by Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, President of Venezuela, the country's Supreme Court announced that Delcy Rodríguez, the Vice President, will temporarily assume the responsibilities of the presidency.
