Unrest in Iran; Tasnim reports seven Islamic Republic security forces killed in Mashhad

This news comes as human rights organizations report an increase in the number of civilian victims during the protests.


According to human rights organizations, security forces have used direct gunfire to suppress the protests; an action that has led to the deaths of dozens of protesting citizens.


These organizations have repeatedly warned against the use of lethal violence against protesters.


Tasnim News Agency has also announced in a separate report that two other members of the security forces have lost their lives in the city of Qom, although details regarding the identities of these individuals and the circumstances of their deaths have not been officially confirmed.


Meanwhile, Islamic Republic officials have labeled the ongoing protests as "riots" and, in some areas, attributed them to "armed individuals." Government officials have also spoken of the decisive deployment of security forces to suppress the protests; a matter that has been met with widespread reactions and criticism from human rights groups.


At the same time, a doctor, in an interview with Time magazine, stated that at least 217 protesters have died in just six hospitals in Tehran; individuals who, according to him, were mostly killed by gunshot wounds from military ammunition. However, due to internet shutdowns and severe restrictions against independent media, the exact numbers of those killed, injured, and detained remain unclear.

Tasnim News Agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has reported, citing local officials, that seven members of the Islamic Republic's security forces have been killed during the recent unrest in the city of Mashhad.
