Second deportation in a week; Germany deports Afghan asylum seeker with criminal record

According to German media reports, these two deportations took place on the morning of Tuesday, January 2. The identity of the Afghan asylum seeker has not been officially disclosed; however, it is said that he had previously been convicted and imprisoned in Bavaria on charges of intentional bodily harm.


This action marks the second deportation of an Afghan citizen in less than a week. Prior to this, on December 26, Germany had sent another Afghan asylum seeker—whom authorities described as a "dangerous criminal"—to Afghanistan separately via a regular flight, following consultations and agreement with the Taliban.


Alexander Dobrindt, the German Minister of the Interior, stated on this matter that the return of criminals to countries such as Afghanistan and Syria must be possible, and he emphasized that German society has the right to ensure the removal of criminal individuals to maintain security. He added that the German government supports resolute policies, control, and stability.


Meanwhile, reports indicate that the deported Syrian asylum seeker was also serving his sentence in prison in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on charges including armed robbery, assault, and extortion.


The German Ministry of the Interior has further announced that in recent months, discussions have been held with officials of the Syrian government and representatives of the Taliban, and as a result of these consultations, an agreement has been reached for the regular deportation of "criminal and dangerous" individuals.
