The first plane of Iranian Meraj Airlines landed in Kandahar

Taliban officials at Kandahar Airport say that the start of these flights could pave the way for creating new air routes between Iran and Afghanistan and play a role in expanding trade, tourism, and economic cooperation between the two countries.


Previously, flights of this company had also been conducted to Balkh Province. Haji Zaid, the spokesman for the Taliban governor in Balkh, said on November 8, 2025, that this company would conduct one flight per week from Iran to Balkh and three other flights to Kabul.


This flight has taken place at a time when a number of Iranian airlines are under international sanctions.


Mahan Air is a private airline in Iran that was established in 2010 with a license from the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran.

The Taliban have announced that the first flight of Mahan Air landed on Tuesday at Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport in Kandahar. It is said that the United States sanctioned this company in 2014 for transferring illegal shipments, including sending weapons from Iran to the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
