CNN: Steve Witkoff Heads to Doha for Talks Related to Iran

Donald Trump, President of the United States, wrote on the social network “Truth Social” on Monday, June 28, that Iran has requested the holding of a summit, and this summit is scheduled to take place the following day in Doha. In this message, he provided no further details about the composition of the delegations or the potential topics of the negotiations.


Following the publication of this message, Karoline Leavitt, White House spokesperson, said in an interview with Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” program that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the U.S. president’s son-in-law, have departed for Qatar to participate in this summit.


Despite these reports, officials of the Islamic Republic have denied any direct negotiations or technical summit between Tehran and Washington in the coming days.


Kazem Gharibabadi also stated, referring to the continuation of routine consultations with Qatari officials, including on following up on the implementation of the other side’s commitments, that reports by some media outlets regarding the holding of technical discussions between Iran and the United States in Doha are not confirmed by Tehran.

CNN has reported, citing two senior U.S. officials, that Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy, has traveled to Doha, the capital of Qatar, to participate in negotiations with representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
