UN in Kabul calls for lifting Taliban restrictions on Afghan women and girls

This UN official, during his trip to Afghanistan, met with a number of diplomatic partners and Taliban officials, and emphasized lifting restrictions on humanitarian activities, particularly the restrictions imposed on women’s work in this sector.


The United Nations Women’s Section stated that the goal of these meetings was to increase support for women and girls in Afghanistan and to reduce barriers that have hindered the activities of humanitarian organizations.


Mohammad Naseri also emphasized that, despite various crises in the world, the United Nations will remain committed to supporting women and girls in Afghanistan.


The Taliban, after returning to power in August 2021, have imposed extensive restrictions on the education, employment, and public presence of women. The United Nations has repeatedly called on the Taliban to lift these restrictions and has described them as a violation of the fundamental rights of women and girls in Afghanistan.

The United Nations Women’s Section has announced that Mohammad Naseri, head of the Executive Director’s Office of this body, during his trip to Afghanistan, has urged the Taliban to take immediate and additional actions to support women and girls in Afghanistan.
