Iranians angry with Trump; Telegraph: People hold US president responsible for thousands of deaths

These protesters say Trump's remarks led them to the streets; but in the end, they witnessed their family members, friends, and neighbors being killed by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic.


Donald Trump, the President of the United States, had urged the people of Iran to "continue protesting" during this month's unrest and promised assistance; but later it appeared that he had backtracked on his support for the anti-government demonstrations.


Protesters who participated in the nationwide demonstrations have said that both Trump and Reza Pahlavi, the former crown prince of Iran who had called on the people to protest, are held responsible for the subsequent deaths and injuries. "They have blood on their hands and must accept responsibility for the thousands who protested at their invitation and were killed, and target those who truly issued the order for the massacre."


Nevertheless, Trump is still considering military options against Iran, including targeted strikes against security forces and government leaders; although the protests have now been suppressed by the Islamic Republic. U.S. sources have said the president's goal has been to create conditions for regime change.


The death toll remains disputed; the U.S.-based human rights group Hengaw has recorded the deaths of 5,937 people, including 214 security forces personnel, while Iranian officials have announced an official figure of 3,117 people. Nevertheless, reports indicate that the casualties are far greater than these numbers.

The Telegraph newspaper has reported that Iranian protesters say Donald Trump "has blood on his hands" after he encouraged people to take to the streets and thousands were subsequently shot.
