UN announces start of skills training programs for returnee youth in eastern Afghanistan

According to information from these institutions, within the framework of a special financial fund, solar power systems have been distributed to a number of families, and simultaneously, technical and life skills training courses are being held for youth so that they can create a sustainable source of income for themselves.


The report states that in the year 2025 AD alone, millions of Afghan citizens have returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan in a compulsory manner. Most of these individuals have entered Afghanistan without assets, cash, or basic facilities, and upon return, they face serious economic and social problems.


To address these challenges, a joint project titled "Sustainable Solutions for the Displaced" is being implemented in the eastern regions of the country. The goal of this program is stated as providing conditions for normal living, access to basic services, and reducing deprivation among returned families.


Based on this plan, a number of international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme, the International Labour Organization, the International Organization for Migration, the World Food Programme, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and other institutions, are each active in their respective sectors to prevent duplication of efforts and prioritize the real needs of the people.


Special emphasis has also been placed on empowering women and girls in these programs so that they can actively participate in economic and social activities.


Meanwhile, the lack of job opportunities has been raised as one of the biggest problems for returned youth. For this reason, technical and vocational training courses in various fields have been launched so that participants, after completing their training, can enter the job market or start their own small businesses.


In Sorkh Rod district, a four-month mobile phone repair training course has been held for 20 youth. Participants in this program receive a monthly stipend, and at the end of the course, the necessary work tools are provided to them so that they can work independently.


One of the trainees in this program says that after returning from Pakistan, these trainings have been a fresh opportunity for him, and now he is able to repair various types of mobile phones and create a source of income for his family.


In addition, training in installing solar systems and repairing batteries is also underway in some eastern districts, with most participants being returned youth.


Officials of this project say that their ultimate goal is to create coordination among various institutions and make effective use of available resources so that vulnerable families can stand on their own feet again and build a more stable future.

United Nations-affiliated institutions have announced the launch of an extensive support program in Afghanistan's eastern provinces, aimed at assisting newly returned families and creating employment opportunities for youth.
