Trump arrives in Ankara to attend NATO summit

Turkish media have reported that Trump and Erdoğan will hold a private bilateral meeting at the start of this trip. Following that, a joint session will be held with the official delegations of both countries.


According to these reports, cooperation in the defense industries will be the most important focus of the discussions between the two presidents. These meetings are expected to last approximately three hours, after which Trump will be transferred to a hotel where stringent security measures have been implemented. Additionally, he is scheduled to attend a NATO leaders' dinner banquet on Tuesday evening.


The White House has also stated that the President of the United States will meet on the sidelines of this trip with Gen. Ken Keen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, Matt Whitaker, U.S. Ambassador to NATO, and Tom Barkak, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey.


This trip marks the first official visit by a U.S. President to Turkey in the past 17 years. The White House has announced that Trump has a packed schedule of diplomatic meetings planned during his stay in Ankara.

He landed at Ankara Airport on Tuesday afternoon, July 6, aboard the new "Air Force One" aircraft gifted by Qatar, and was welcomed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey.
