Australia rejected Taliban representation; Afghan embassy in Canberra confirmed

According to this former diplomat, the Australian government has officially accepted the continuation of the Afghan embassy's activities in Canberra for a specified period. This decision has been made at a time when Afghanistan currently lacks a recognized government, an active foreign ministry, and an official diplomatic structure at the international level.


He added that the Afghan embassy in Australia has continued its activities over the past more than four years, despite extensive challenges, in order to safeguard the national interests of Afghan citizens and maintain a political stance against the Taliban's conduct.


Based on these statements, Australian officials, after necessary reviews, have concluded that any diplomatic presence of the Taliban must be prevented, and in contrast, the former Afghan representations should be preserved as references for services and politics.


This former official also emphasized that such a situation is not limited to Australia alone, and in a number of other countries as well, Afghanistan's political representations and consulates continue their activities without affiliation to the Taliban.


In his view, the sustainability of these representations depends on several key factors, including the support of political, civil, and anti-Taliban currents, the solidarity of Afghan citizens residing abroad, the humanitarian approach of host countries, and efforts to establish a common political framework at the national level.


In conclusion, he pointed to the extensive problems faced by Afghan citizens in accessing consular services and stated that the crisis created by the Taliban has left the lives of many Afghan citizens mired in serious confusion. According to him, the fundamental solution to this situation is the restoration of political legitimacy, the rule of law, and the formation of an accountable system in Afghanistan.

The former representative of Afghanistan at the United Nations has announced that the Australian government has made a firm decision to refrain from accepting any representative affiliated with the Taliban, even at the level of honorary consul, and instead to allow the continuation of activities by representations affiliated with the former Afghan government.
