Local sources: A US citizen has been arrested by the Taliban in Mazar-e-Sharif

The U.S. State Department, on Monday, responded to reports about this incident by telling media outlets that it is aware of "reports regarding the detention of an American citizen in Afghanistan." The department also emphasized that for the Trump administration, nothing is more important than ensuring the safety and protection of American citizens.


According to sources, Taliban members entered his home in the Kartah Zira'at area of Mazar-i-Sharif at midnight on Friday, July 16.


The source adds that Taliban agents continued searching and inspecting the premises in Baker's home until morning, then took him with them. After Baker was taken away, the door to his home was also sealed and locked by the Taliban agents.


Haji Zaid, spokesman for the Taliban's governor's office in Balkh, has not taken a clear stance on the fate of this American citizen. He neither confirmed nor denied reports of Baker's detention and said he had no knowledge of such an arrest. However, Zaid speculated that Baker may have been "detained by central intelligence."


Baker has resided in Afghanistan for about 9 years and works providing business consulting services to Afghan citizens. Documents reviewed show that he held a business operation permit from Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce and also managed a company called "Baker Consultancy Services."

Local sources say that Tad Adam Baker, an American citizen who has lived in Afghanistan for nearly 9 years, disappeared about 25 days ago in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, and reports indicate that he has been detained by the Taliban.
