Sources: Several Taliban checkpoints in Zibak district of Badakhshan targeted by attack

According to the sources, anti-Taliban forces, after intense fighting, have seized the Sarhwad outpost belonging to the Taliban's border battalion. The sources claim that Taliban forces have withdrawn from this outpost. It is also claimed that in this clash, seven Taliban members were killed, five others wounded, and at least two anti-Taliban fighters were injured.


Sources say the Taliban have sent their commandos to the area by helicopter and reinforcements by land, and a number of wounded from this group have been transported to Fayzabad by helicopter. According to one source, the intensity of the fighting has been greater than in past incidents, and the battle is ongoing simultaneously on multiple fronts. The identity of the attacking group remains unclear; however, sources report the presence of anti-Taliban forces in the heights of Zibak District and the deployment of additional forces by both sides.


This clash occurred a few days after an attack by the newly formed "Homeland Corps" front on the Lower Yaftal District; an assault during which this front briefly seized the district building, the Taliban's police command, and intelligence office. In recent months, the activities of the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Freedom Front in Badakhshan have also increased, and these two groups have previously claimed responsibility for several attacks against Taliban forces and outposts.

Local sources in Badakhshan say that several Taliban outposts in the Topkhana area of Zibak District were targeted by armed individuals starting from midday on Thursday, August 1. According to the sources, with the onset of the clashes, the Taliban have dispatched additional forces to the area to bolster their positions.
