At least 58 Yemeni government forces killed in Houthi attacks in Yemen

The Houthis have claimed responsibility for these attacks, stating that they targeted positions using ballistic missiles and drones, which they described as gathering points for Saudi Arabian military forces. The group claims that hundreds were killed or wounded in these attacks, and a number of military equipment were also destroyed.


Houthi officials stated that this operation was carried out after identifying a gathering of Saudi forces preparing to intensify attacks against areas under their control. In response, Yemen's Health Minister has instructed medical centers in Marib and Hadramaut to prepare to receive the wounded and has condemned these attacks.


The U.S. delegation on Yemen affairs has also expressed condolences to the families of the killed soldiers and condemned the Houthi attacks. The delegation described the Houthis' actions as "terrorism against the people of Yemen."


The conflict between the Houthis and the Yemeni government forces has continued for years. Saudi Arabia has led the coalition supporting the Yemeni government since 2015; a coalition that formed after the Houthis captured Sana'a in 2014 and has plunged Yemen into a prolonged war, facing a widespread humanitarian and economic crisis.

AFP has reported, citing a military source, that at least 58 forces affiliated with the government have been killed in Houthi attacks on military camps in Yemen's Marib and Hadramaut provinces.
