Massive fire breaks out in heart of Karachi; At least 14 killed

According to security sources, during the search operations, the bodies of several other victims were recovered from under the rubble.


The fire broke out around 10 p.m. in a building known as "Gul Plaza" on M.A. Jinnah Road and quickly engulfed various sections of the structure.


The intensity of the blaze caused parts of the building to collapse, presenting serious challenges to the firefighting efforts.


Local officials have announced that rescue and search operations for any potentially trapped individuals are continuing even after the fire has been fully contained.


In the latest phase of these operations, the bodies of three people, including a child, were discovered and transferred to medical centers. At the same time, a number of anxious citizens have gathered around the incident site, waiting for news of their relatives and acquaintances.


Karachi police have stated that contact information for the families of the missing individuals has been recorded, and an examination of telecommunications data indicates that the mobile phones of more than 20 people were last located inside the building.


Meanwhile, the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan have directed officials in Sindh Province to utilize all available resources for relief efforts and assistance to the injured.


In a separate incident, a number of Afghan traders have reported that in another fire at Karachi's commercial port, 98 containers carrying goods belonging to Afghan merchants were consumed by the flames. According to them, the damage from this incident is estimated at around five million dollars.


Some of these traders, expressing skepticism about the official explanations, have said that while Pakistani authorities have described the event as an ordinary fire; they suspect that these containers may have been deliberately set ablaze and are calling for a transparent and independent investigation into the matter.

A massive fire in a commercial complex in the city of Karachi was brought under control after approximately 33 hours of relentless efforts by rescue forces; an incident that claimed the lives of at least 14 people and injured more than 20 others.
