Pakistan's federal government calls Sohail Afridi's statements 'soft on terrorists'

Afridi had said a few days ago that if Afghan soil is truly being used to orchestrate attacks against Pakistan, the central government must provide clear evidence and documentation to substantiate this claim.


In response to these remarks, Talal Chaudhry, Pakistan's Minister of State for Interior, stressed that demanding "proof and evidence" regarding Afghanistan's role essentially amounts to a veiled sympathy and a soft approach toward terrorist networks. He stated that the federal government will not allow Pakistan's national stance against terrorism to be undermined by vague or misleading interpretations.


Chaudhry warned that any individual or government official who, knowingly or unknowingly, creates a permissive space for terrorist elements or adopts a lenient stance toward them, endangers the country's security and the lives of its citizens.


Referring directly to Sohail Afridi, he added: "If you feel that close to them, go to Afghanistan yourself; we can even arrange travel facilities for you."


The Minister of State for Interior also sharply criticized the performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, stating that in 2025 alone, more than 1,200 people have lost their lives in terrorist incidents in Pakistan, with around 60 to 70 percent of these attacks occurring in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to him—a figure described as the highest death toll in the country's history.


According to Chaudhry, no one has the right to indulge "terrorists" under the guise of sympathy or empathy, thereby bartering away Pakistan's national security and the blood of its citizens.


Meanwhile, Sohail Afridi had previously stated at a political gathering that Afghanistan is not Pakistan's only neighbor and that other countries also share borders with it, yet they do not level such accusations. Video footage of his remarks has been broadcast by Pakistan's state television and is circulating widely on social media.

Recent statements by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi have drawn sharp criticism from Pakistan's federal government.
