Pakistan's Ministry of Intelligence: Kohat Attackers Have Afghan Links

According to reports, the attackers drove a vehicle carrying explosives toward a mosque in Kohat on Friday afternoon, resulting in at least 16 people killed and more than 50 others wounded. The group "Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan" (TTP), led by Hafiz Gul Bahadur, has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the Taliban has also condemned the incident.


Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, on Saturday, September 19 (28 Saureh), referring to statements by Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, said that in circumstances where, according to this ministry's claim, the Taliban government practically supports terrorism in Pakistan, Mujahid's statements about threatening Pakistan with a "crushing response" are regrettable. The ministry emphasized that the Taliban's condemnation of the Kohat attack does not absolve this group of its responsibility to combat terrorism.


In the ministry's statement, it was noted that the Taliban, based on its commitments under the Doha Agreement framework and its responsibility to prevent the use of Afghan soil against other countries, must undertake "credible, verifiable, and sustained" actions to eliminate terrorist safe havens, disrupt networks for recruiting and training extremists, and prevent the planning, facilitation, or execution of attacks against Pakistan.


Islamabad added that, despite emphasizing dialogue and constructive engagement with the Taliban, it will not allow "pretending to engage in dialogue" to become a cover for supporting groups that threaten Pakistan's security. Pakistan's Ministry of Information has also warned that the continued activity of terrorist groups in Afghanistan could lead to heightened instability and serious consequences at the regional and global levels, and it has called on the international community to compel the Taliban to take decisive and verifiable actions against these groups.



Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced that the perpetrators of the attack on worshippers and police forces in the city of Kohat, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, have roots in Afghanistan. The ministry stated that instead of shirking responsibility, the Taliban should take action to counter terrorist networks operating in Afghanistan.
