Afghan asylum seeker sentenced to 9 years in prison in Scotland for sexually assaulting teenage girl

According to court documents, the incident occurred in one of the country's public parks, and the victim was less than eighteen years old at the time of the event. The accused denied all charges during the judicial proceedings and claimed that there had been no coercion between him and the victim; a claim that was rejected by the jury after examination of the evidence.


The judge in the case, describing the incident as an act of extreme violence and utterly intolerable to society, emphasized that the judicial system will show no leniency toward such crimes. In addition to the main charge, the individual was also found guilty in cases related to threats and harassment.


The defendant's lawyer stated that his client had entered the United Kingdom in 2023 after enduring arduous journeys and had previously faced serious security problems in Afghanistan. According to him, the accused claimed that he had previously joined the Afghan security forces and was later detained by the Taliban; a matter which, in the event of potential deportation, could put his life in danger.


Meanwhile, Scotland Police, in a published statement, described this conviction as an important step in the fight against sexual violence and stated that such crimes have no place in this country's society and that their perpetrators, regardless of background and immigration status, will be held accountable for their actions.

The Supreme Court of Scotland in the city of Edinburgh sentenced an Afghan man, who was living in the United Kingdom as a refugee, to nine years in prison on charges of committing sexual assault against a teenage girl.
