End of imprisonment; Hamid Farhadi released from Taliban prison after two years

Farhadi was arrested by Taliban Ministry of Interior forces in Kabul on September 3, 2024. On September 19 of the same year, he was sentenced to two years in prison by a Taliban court on charges of "propaganda" against the group and collaboration with "Ettela'at Roz."


This journalist was initially held in Pul-e-Charkhi prison and transferred to Bagram prison in March 2025. During this period, Farhadi's family was only allowed to visit him once a month for 30 minutes.


Since returning to power, the Taliban have repeatedly arrested and imprisoned journalists and media workers. Collaboration with media outlets based outside Afghanistan is also considered a crime by this group, and several journalists have been convicted on this charge.


The Afghanistan Journalists Center recently announced that at least four journalists and media workers are still being held in Taliban prisons.

Hamid Farhadi, a journalist who had been arrested and imprisoned by the Taliban on charges of collaborating with the newspaper "Ettela'at Roz," was released after two years on Thursday, August 22. One of his family members has confirmed his release from Bagram prison.
