Türkiye sends chargé d'affaires to Kabul instead of ambassador

According to reports, Sadi Noyan Yıldız met and held discussions on Tuesday with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.


It is said that the main focus of this meeting was to explore ways to expand bilateral relations, particularly in the economic and health sectors.


Since the Taliban’s return to power, Turkey has so far changed its ambassador in Kabul at least twice, and in its most recent move, appointed a chargé d'affaires instead of an ambassador—a step seen as indicative of a reduction in the level of diplomatic engagement between Ankara and the Taliban administration.


Prior to this, Sadi Noyan Yıldız had served as Turkey’s consul general in countries such as Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, and Ukraine.

Following the conclusion of the Onul War mission, the Turkish government appointed Sadi Noyan Yıldız, the former Turkish ambassador to Kabul in December of last year, as its new chargé d'affaires to Afghanistan and dispatched him to Kabul.
