Four new polio cases identified in Afghanistan

According to the report of this organization, the new cases have been identified in the Shindand and Adraskan districts of Herat province, the Dila district of Paktika province, and the Arghistan district of Kandahar province.

This institution has also stated that since the beginning of this year, dozens of environmental samples from water and sewage in various parts of Afghanistan have tested positive for the polio virus, indicating the continued circulation of this virus in the country.

Afghanistan and Pakistan remain the only countries in the world where polio has not been completely eradicated. Health experts warn that reduced vaccination coverage, especially following the restrictions on door-to-door campaigns, has increased the risk of further spread of this disease.

This year's statistics show that the number of polio cases in Afghanistan has increased compared to the same period last year, raising concerns among health institutions.

The World Health Organization has announced that four new cases of polio infection have been recorded in Afghanistan. With the registration of these cases, the number of patients with this disease in the current calendar year has risen to 19.
