Freedom Front: We targeted Taliban positions in Zibak in a "preemptive" attack

According to the front, this attack came after Taliban forces had prepared to launch an assault against the Freedom Front's positions. The Freedom Front described this action as a "preemptive" strike and claimed that as a result, the Taliban had suffered heavy casualties.


The group reported that a number of Taliban fighters had been killed and wounded; however, it provided no specific casualty figures. Based on the Freedom Front's claims, the killed and wounded Taliban members had been transported for treatment to medical centers in Zibak and Faizabad Hospital. The Taliban has not yet responded to these claims.


This incident comes amid escalating clashes between the Taliban and the group's armed opponents in parts of Badakhshan province. The Taliban has deployed thousands of troops to the province to counter opposition forces, and military operations continue in Noshi Darwaz district as well.


Reports indicate that in Noshi Darwaz, the Taliban is using ground operations and airstrikes to combat forces loyal to Juma Khan Fathih.


At the same time, recent statements by Taliban officials regarding opponents and the large-scale deployment of forces to Badakhshan signal the group's concerns over the rising activities of armed opponents in the province.


These developments coincide with the fifth anniversary of the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan—an anniversary that Taliban opponents have also used to reiterate their ongoing resistance.


The Freedom Front of Afghanistan added that its commando forces remain stationed and active at their bases and defensive positions in Zibak district.


Meanwhile, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban's foreign minister, at a ceremony held in Kabul to mark the fifth anniversary of the group's return to power, referred to Taliban opponents as "latchak"—a colloquial and derogatory term used to describe dissolute individuals.


The ongoing clashes in Badakhshan, particularly in Noshi Darwaz, continue under circumstances in which the Taliban is seeking to curb the activities of armed opponents through the use of ground forces and airstrikes.

The Freedom Front of Afghanistan announced on Saturday, August 24, that its forces had targeted Taliban positions on the front lines of battle in Zibak district of Badakhshan province with howitzer fire.
