Informed sources: The conflict in Nessy began on the orders of Taj Mir Javad

Based on information from the sources, Taliban intelligence forces launched their operation on Tuesday, August 20, targeting the disarming of Badakhshan members of this group in the Darwaz district and several other areas. This action encountered resistance from Fathih’s forces and some local Taliban, leading to clashes that began that evening and have continued to the present.


The clashes are intense in the Khughez, Dowabgi, Khanis, and Ilrama areas of Nesi, with both sides using light and heavy weapons. Sources have reported casualties on both sides. There are also reports of a Taliban helicopter being shot down by Fathih’s forces, and it is said that Taliban helicopters have been dispatched to the area to evacuate the dead and wounded from this group; however, the transfer of the bodies of several members of the special unit has so far faced resistance.


As the fighting continues in Nesi, anti-Taliban activities have also increased in other parts of Badakhshan. Sources report the presence of Liberation Front forces near the Zebak district and suggest that insecurity may spread to other districts in the coming days. On Thursday, Habib al-Rahman Mansour, the Taliban’s mayor of Fayzabad, was killed in an attack by the National Resistance Front; he is the second Taliban official to be targeted in recent days in the center of Badakhshan.


In response to the escalating clashes, the Taliban leadership has sent thousands of troops from several provinces to Badakhshan to suppress Fathih’s forces and disarm local Taliban opposed to them. Juma Khan Fathih, for his part, called on his forces and the people in an audio message on Wednesday to begin war against the Taliban. The rift between him and the Taliban leadership dates back months and has primarily revolved around mining rights, intensifying after the arrest of several of his close associates on the orders of the Taliban governor in Badakhshan. Fathih was previously the deputy governor of the Taliban in Zabul and, after his dismissal and growing disputes, went to Kabul; he had claimed to have met with the Taliban’s prime minister as well.

Informed sources reported that clashes between Taliban forces and individuals affiliated with Juma Khan Fathih began three days ago in the Nesi district of Badakhshan, following an operation by the Taliban’s special intelligence unit. According to these sources, the operation was carried out against Fathih’s forces on the direct orders of Taj Mir Jawad, the Taliban’s deputy intelligence chief.
