Mullah Baradar urges Taliban opponents not to drag Afghanistan into civil war

Baradar made these remarks on Wednesday, August 28, during a ceremony marking the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan's independence in Kabul. In his speech, he claimed that Afghanistan is now "free and independent" and that the Taliban's opponents should not disrupt the country's peace with their actions.


This Taliban official described the group's opponents as "evildoers and saboteurs" and urged them to abandon what he called the "failed experience of past performance" and leave the people of Afghanistan alone.


Without naming any specific group or individual, he said that those who have played a role in Afghanistan's civil wars have a "black record" in the eyes of the people and can no longer regain society's trust.


The Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs also praised the group's security forces, claiming that they have neutralized the opponents' activities "in the bud" by confronting them before they could spread.


At the end, Baradar once again urged the opponents to refrain from fueling conflicts and to prevent Afghanistan from returning to a period of civil war.

Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, has called on the group's opponents to refrain from continuing conflicts and not drag Afghanistan back into civil war.
