Media Protection Organization: Detention of Afghan journalists in Pakistan threatens their lives

This organization has called for the immediate release of three Afghan journalists who were recently detained by Pakistani police.


According to this organization, within the span of one week, one Afghan journalist was arrested in the city of Peshawar and two others in Islamabad. Based on the statement issued on Thursday, the detained individuals are Abdul Rahman Mangal, Esma Mohammadi, and Samim Noaimi.


The Afghan Media Support Organization has emphasized that many Afghan journalists, due to security threats and existing pressures, have been forced to leave Afghanistan and are now living in difficult and uncertain conditions in Pakistan.


This organization has warned that the arrest and potential deportation of these individuals to Afghanistan seriously threatens their lives and safety.


In this statement, the arrest of Afghan journalists has been described as a "clear violation of freedom of expression, journalistic principles, and human rights," and Pakistani police have been urged to refrain from arresting, harassing, and forcibly deporting Afghan journalists and to facilitate their immediate release.


This organization has also called on the United Nations and other international bodies to seriously pursue the issue of the detention of Afghan journalists in Pakistan and to take immediate and practical actions to protect their lives and safety.


Pakistan has intensified the process of widespread deportation of Afghan migrants over the past year—a process that also encompasses human rights activists, journalists, and civil society actors. Meanwhile, independent journalists in Afghanistan face severe pressure, threats, and restrictions from the Taliban.


In recent months, amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration, the forced deportation of Afghan refugees has intensified, and Afghan journalists are among the most vulnerable groups in this process.

The "Afghan Media Support Organization" has warned against the successive arrests of Afghan journalists in Pakistan and stated that the continuation of this trend could put their lives at serious risk.
