Three Pakistani security forces killed in Karachi blast, shooting

Javed Alam Odho, the police chief of Sindh Province, said security forces were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the explosion and widespread shooting, and the situation is now under control.


The group "Jamaat-ul-Ahrar," considered a splinter faction of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, is said to have claimed responsibility for the attack.


The United Nations had previously stated in a report that this group, after splitting from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, had established a base in the Lalpura area of Afghanistan's Nangarhar Province.


According to Pakistani officials, this attack is the most significant security incident in Karachi since the October 2024 explosion targeting a convoy of Chinese citizens, in which two Chinese nationals lost their lives.

Police officials in Sindh Province announced that on Saturday evening, following an explosion and shooting near several universities and the meteorological office in Karachi, at least three security personnel and three attackers were killed.
