Türkiye and Pakistan: Saudi Arabia has not asked us for help to confront the Houthis

The recent Houthi attacks from Yemen on key Saudi oil infrastructure are occurring at a time when the new defense pact between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan has not yet reached the operational stage. A Turkish official stated that the process of institutionalizing this cooperation must be completed before the full implementation of the defense pact.


Meanwhile, officials from both countries have expressed support for Saudi Arabia in response to reports of an attempted drone attack on Mecca. Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, said that Islamabad and Riyadh stand "resolute and shoulder-to-shoulder" with each other on this issue. Turkey's Foreign Minister also announced that no country can remain indifferent in the face of such an event.


The Houthis have denied claims of an attempt to target Mecca. Mahdi al-Mashat, a leader of the group, described Saudi statements on the matter as an effort to rally public opinion.


Previously, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced that its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a drone affiliated with the Houthis, which they claimed intended to enter Mecca's airspace. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki also told Reuters that this was the second Houthi attempt to target Mecca.



Turkish and Pakistani officials have stated that Saudi Arabia has not yet requested military assistance from Ankara and Islamabad following the increased Houthi attacks. These remarks were made on Wednesday, September 25, in an interview with the Associated Press.
