Sources: Naveedullah Fitrat, a Taliban critic and educator, was arrested in Herat

Based on information received, the Taliban have also arrested members of a family on charges of hosting Nawidullah Fetrat. Taliban officials have not yet provided any explanation regarding the arrest of this teacher or the reason for it.

In recent days, Fetrat had criticized the Taliban’s policies and performance in a video. He had accused the Taliban of pursuing “ethnic goals under the mask of religion” and called on the group to “separate religion from politics.”

This teacher also held the Taliban responsible for destroying the people of Afghanistan’s opportunities, establishing a tyrannical system, and instrumentally using religion to advance political and ethnic goals. He had also called on religious clerics to take a stance against the Taliban’s actions.

Fetrat’s critical video was widely reposted on social media, and a number of users expressed concern for his safety. In the same video, he had said: “This may be my last video; but before I die, I will speak the truth.”

Informed sources say that Nawidullah Fetrat, a teacher and critic of the Taliban, was arrested by Taliban forces in the early hours of Wednesday, the 4th of Sunbula, in the city of Herat. According to the sources, he was detained around 8 a.m. near the Chawk Cinema in Herat.
