Nay in Exile: Taliban Treat Nazere Rashidi Like a 'Prisoner of War' in Prison

According to this organization, sources close to Ms. Rashidi have reported that she has faced escalating violence in Taliban custody and that her hands and feet have been shackled with chains.


It is said that this reporter left her home after receiving a call on Wednesday of last week and was immediately detained by Taliban intelligence.


"Nay in Exile" expressed serious concern over Nazira Rashidi's situation and urged international organizations, including the United Nations, to apply pressure on the Taliban to secure her immediate release.


The Taliban have not yet announced the reason for this reporter's detention.


The organization also recalled that since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, approximately six journalists are detained each month. Some of these journalists have been released; however, the fate of others remains unknown.

The Afghan Media Support Organization, "Nay in Exile," stated in response to the detention of Nazira Rashidi, a reporter for a local television station in Kunduz by the Taliban, that she is being treated in detention in a manner akin to that of a "prisoner of war."
