Breaking the Silence; Ghani Says Afghanistan is on the Brink of Life and Death

He continued by stating that Afghanistan has become unprecedentedly isolated and the global community's view of the country has shifted; to the point that many now see Afghanistan not as an ordinary neighbor, but as a security threat. Ghani added that even countries and parties that were ready to give the Taliban a chance are now openly speaking of the danger of terrorism emerging from Afghan soil.

Referring to the issue of political legitimacy, Ghani emphasized that the world has still not recognized the Taliban's administration and described this situation as the result of a "legitimacy crisis." In his view, legitimacy is not obtained through force and claims, but only from the people and through free choice.

He also accused the Taliban of remaining oblivious to the profound changes in the mindset and outlook of the Afghan people. In one part of his message, Ghani once again recalled that about six months ago, he had said the people of Afghanistan were caught between two paths—life and destruction; but since then, his ability to continue speaking has been restricted.

The former president of Afghanistan, who lives in exile in the United Arab Emirates, had previously been targeted by restrictions on his political and media activities. In this message, he once again said without naming a specific party that his voice had been silenced during this period; but his mental and intellectual connection with the people has not been severed.

In the final section of the message, Ghani, referring to Afghanistan's current and future situation, called for the start of a genuine national dialogue and emphasized that the time for decision-making has arrived. He raised questions about the achievements of the past five years, their costs, and the consequences of continuing this situation in the future, warning that indifference would mean handing over the decision-making about the country's fate to others.

Ashraf Ghani, the former president of Afghanistan, has warned in his Eid message that Afghanistan is at a critical juncture, caught between "life and destruction," and, according to him, has reached the edge of a precipice. He says the world waited nearly five years to see changes in Afghanistan; but this wait is now ending amid a wave of despair.
