Pakistani police arrest Afghan refugee for posting critical content

According to Pakistani security officials, this individual, who is a resident of one of the refugee camps on the outskirts of Peshawar, had expressed critical views against the Pakistani government's policies in a video clip, which prompted a reaction from security institutions.


Reports indicate that police forces, after identifying the living location of this migrant, arrested him from one of the refugee camps in the Daudzai area.


Local officials say the arrested individual has admitted responsibility for publishing the video during investigations and expressed regret over its content.


Police have announced that after completing legal procedures, this migrant will be returned to Afghanistan.


This incident occurs at a time when the Pakistani government, since early April of this year, has intensified its crackdown on migrants without legal documents and launched extensive operations to arrest and deport them.


Meanwhile, human rights advocacy organizations have warned about the consequences of these actions and emphasize that such practices could violate freedom of expression, the right to access fair judicial processes, and other rights of refugees. Pakistani officials, however, consider it part of the government's efforts to ensure national security and enforce immigration laws.

Local sources in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province say that Pakistan police have arrested an Afghan refugee in the city of Peshawar on charges of publishing a critical video on social media.
