Karzai calls for reopening schools and universities to Afghan girls

Mr. Karzai, on Thursday, 18 Saratan, posted on his X page to congratulate Rashid, Inamullah, and Abdullah Hadi, the winners of first through third place in the konkour, while expressing hope that girls too will soon be able to return to education and studies.


In his message, Karzai emphasized the right of equal access for girls and boys to education and higher studies. He had previously expressed regret over girls' exclusion from participating in the konkour exam, stating that education is vital for all citizens and that Afghanistan can only advance on the path of progress and development by relying on the knowledge and expertise of both its daughters and sons.


These remarks come as, following the Taliban's return to power, girls have been deprived of continuing their education in secondary schools, high schools, and universities in Afghanistan over the past five years.

Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, has once again called for the reopening of school and university doors to girls coinciding with the announcement of the 1405 konkour results.
