Hengaw: Three Afghan citizens executed in Iran

According to Hengaw’s report, the executions took place in various prisons across Iran. The Afghan citizens among them—Karim Nazari from Herat, Saifuddin Mehraban, and Nami Kasravi from Baghlan—were hanged at dawn on Wednesday and Thursday, the 8th and 9th of Dalw (January 28 and 29, 2025).


As of the publication of this report, Iranian state media, particularly those affiliated with the judiciary, have not published any news regarding these executions.


The Iran Human Rights organization had previously stated that the execution of Afghan citizens in Iran has increased following the Taliban’s rise to power.


According to Hengaw’s report, in 2025, at least 1,858 people were executed in Iran, of whom 85 were Afghan nationals, while in 2024, 80 Afghan citizens were also executed.


Available statistics indicate that the number of Afghan citizens executed in Iran in 2024 and 2025 has nearly tripled compared to 2023.

The human rights organization Hengaw reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran has carried out the execution of 14 prisoners, including three Afghan citizens. These three Afghan prisoners had previously been convicted on charges of “premeditated murder” and “drug-related offenses.”
