Explosion in Dasht-e-Barchi; UNICEF: Schools must be safe environments for children

UNICEF, referring to the injury of at least 42 children in the incident, emphasized that the Dasht-e Barchi tragedy once again highlights the importance of protecting children and ensuring their access to essential services. The agency stated that educational centers must provide a safe environment free from fear, violence, and harm, so that children can learn and grow without worry.


The organization also joined international calls for a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the explosion. The incident occurred on Monday, August 26, in Kabul's Dasht-e Barchi neighborhood, resulting in at least 42 children aged 9 to 14 being injured.


Previously, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights had expressed solidarity with the victims, emphasizing the need for a clear investigation into the incident and the provision of protection for civilians.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has called for the protection of children and educational centers under all circumstances following the recent explosion at a school in western Kabul.
