Moscow calls for permanent ceasefire to reopen Strait of Hormuz

In a post on the social network X, he wrote: "Russia fully agrees with such an approach."


These remarks came in response to statements by Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister. Wang Yi had said that China believes resolving issues related to the Strait of Hormuz hinges on "establishing a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire" between Washington and Tehran.


He added that Xi Jinping, in his discussions with Trump last week, had emphasized that "force cannot solve problems and dialogue is the only right path."


These statements come as Bahrain and the United States are working to garner support from United Nations members for a resolution that would call on Iran to halt attacks and mine-laying in the Strait of Hormuz.

Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, supported China's call for a permanent ceasefire to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
