Former Afghan MP stresses need for formal recognition of Durand Line

Mehdi stressed: "Both countries should agree that after the establishment of a national government in Kabul, they will not host each other's opponents."


These positions are being raised at a time when the Durand Line debate has once again heated up in Afghanistan's media and political spheres. Previously, Mohammad Mohaqeq, leader of the Islamic People's Unity Party of Afghanistan, had announced that he recognizes this line; statements that provoked strong reactions, especially from Pashtuns.

Muhiuddin Mehdi, a former parliamentarian, has emphasized the need to recognize the Durand Line and stated that Afghanistan should abandon its territorial claims over this line.
