Amnesty International calls for immediate end to Taliban violence against Herat protesters

This human rights organization stated that the use of live ammunition against protesters is a worrying sign of escalating restrictions on the right to peaceful protest, freedom of expression, and women's rights in Afghanistan.


Amnesty International emphasized in a message on the social network X that individuals who peacefully voice their demands should not be targeted with violence and gunfire.


The organization also called on the Taliban to immediately release all those detained during the protests and to respect the fundamental rights of women and girls.


Amnesty International noted that freedom of movement, freedom of expression, and the right to hold peaceful assemblies are among the fundamental rights of women and girls, and the Taliban must uphold these rights.

Amnesty International expressed concern over the suppression of protests in response to the Taliban's shooting at demonstrators in Herat and called for an immediate end to the use of force against citizens.
