Women Arrested in Herat; Karzai Calls on Taliban to Protect Afghan Women's Dignity and Rights

Expressing concern over the violence that occurred during recent protests in Herat, he stated that Afghanistan, in its current situation, needs a space of peace, solidarity, and mutual understanding among its people more than ever before.


Mr. Karzai wrote on his X page on Tuesday that the honor and respect of all Afghan citizens, especially women, must be fully upheld, and the conditions for a dignified and honorable life for them must be provided in the country.


Meanwhile, the detention of women in Herat has faced widespread reactions, and in response, a number of residents of the province held a protest rally on Tuesday in support of the demonstrators. Reports and eyewitness accounts indicate that clashes occurred between Taliban forces and protesters during these gatherings.


On the other hand, women's rights activists and human rights organizations warn that restrictions and Taliban actions against women have increased in recent months, heightening concerns about the status of women's rights in Afghanistan.

Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, called for the full respect and dignity of women in the country following the detention of several women by the Taliban in Herat province.
