Sources: Former soldier injured in attack by unknown assailants in Kandahar

According to these sources, Mohammad Akbar was one of the close associates of General Abdul Raziq, the renowned anti-Taliban commander. He also served as the commander of Kandahar's second security district during the previous government and was targeted in multiple attacks during that time as well; to the extent that in one of those attacks, he was severely wounded.


Based on the information, Mohammad Akbar remained in Kandahar after the Taliban's return to power and was engaged in commercial activities and personal affairs.


Relatives of Mohammad Akbar have demanded that the Taliban identify and arrest the perpetrators of this attack. The Taliban have not yet reacted to this incident.


Despite the announcement of a general amnesty by Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, reports continue to indicate the ongoing detention, attacks, and killings of a number of military personnel and employees from the previous government, especially security forces.


Additionally, the United Nations mission in Afghanistan, in its quarterly report published in the month of Saur, stated that the detention and killing of former military personnel continues.


According to this report, in the first three months of the current calendar year, at least 23 cases of detention, 9 cases of torture, and five cases of killing of former Afghan military personnel have been recorded and documented.

Local sources in Kandahar say that Mohammad Akbar, one of the military personnel from the previous government, was targeted in a shooting by unidentified individuals in the Dand district of the province on Thursday and was wounded. According to the sources, he is currently receiving treatment.
