Germany allocates nearly $8 million to Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund

OCHA, on Monday, September 2, expressed appreciation for Germany's support through the announcement of this financial aid; however, it provided no details regarding the allocation of these funds or the sectors that will benefit from them.

This assistance comes at a time when Afghanistan continues to grapple with a widespread humanitarian crisis. According to statistics from the United Nations Development Programme, approximately three-quarters of the country's population lacks the ability to meet basic living needs, including sufficient food; a situation that affects nearly 28 million people.

Relief organizations have repeatedly warned that dwindling financial resources and rising humanitarian needs have placed millions of Afghan citizens at risk of extreme poverty, food insecurity, and deprivation of basic services.

At the same time, the United Nations has emphasized that restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women and girls—particularly in the areas of education, employment, and social participation—have had far-reaching negative consequences for the country's economy and household incomes, posing even greater challenges to improving the humanitarian situation.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that the Government of Germany has contributed $7.96 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund to sustain the delivery of emergency assistance to the most vulnerable citizens of the country.
