Abdul Ghafoor Rawan Farhadi, a prominent Afghan diplomat and researcher, has passed away.

Ravan Farhadi was one of the few figures who, over more than sixty years, played roles in the country's diplomatic apparatus during various and sensitive periods of contemporary Afghan history. He began his activities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the 1930s of the solar calendar and, during the premiership of Mohammad Yusuf, was appointed as the youngest Director General of Political Affairs in this ministry.


He then, during the premierships of Mohammad Hashem Maiwandwal and Nur Ahmad Etemadi, took on the responsibility of Secretary of the Council of Ministers. In 1972, he was also appointed as Afghanistan's ambassador to Paris.


The most important part of Abdul Ghafur Ravan Farhadi's diplomatic activities was his mission as Afghanistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations—a position he held from 1993 to 2006, for 13 years. During this period, coinciding with the government of the Mujahideen, the first rule of the Taliban, and then the era of forming Afghanistan's new system, he continued his work in this role.

Abdul Ghafur Ravan Farhadi, the seasoned diplomat, renowned researcher of Afghanistan, and former representative of this country at the United Nations, passed away at the age of 96 in San Francisco, United States of America.
