Ukraine Talks; Trump Envoys Head to Moscow for Putin Meeting

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that Putin will hold this meeting.


Witkoff has stated that he himself requested this meeting from the Russian side and hopes that Russia will agree to his proposed peace plan for Ukraine. However, he has clarified that territorial issues remain the greatest obstacle in the path to resolving the Ukraine conflict.


This is the second trip by Trump representatives to Moscow in recent months. Earlier, in December, Witkoff and Kushner had about five hours of direct talks with Putin in the Kremlin.


Yury Ushakov, Putin's special assistant, had said that these negotiations were constructive; but no progress was made toward approaching peace or moving away from it.


Ushakov also emphasized that the disagreements regarding Ukraine remain in place and that both sides have agreed not to publicize the details of the negotiations.

Steve Witkoff, the special envoy, and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, will travel to Moscow on Thursday, February 2, to meet with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.
