Sources: ISIS Khorasan leader travels to Kunar, recruits disaffected Taliban forces

Sources on Wednesday (August 1) claimed that the ISIS-Khorasan leader established several training centers for the group's fighters during this trip. These sources also alleged that a large number of disgruntled Taliban forces have joined ISIS.


In recent months, concerns about the increasing activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan have once again been raised. Russia's Foreign Ministry and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office have warned that the activities of groups such as ISIS and al-Qaeda in the country are on the rise.


Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had previously stated that the ISIS-Khorasan branch poses a serious threat to the security of Central Asia. He added that the group, by pursuing expansionist goals, seeks to use Afghanistan as a base to expand its influence and advance its program of establishing a caliphate.


Meanwhile, Russian officials had previously claimed that more than 20 extremist groups, with a total of over 15,000 fighters, are active in Afghanistan, and there is a possibility that the activities of these groups could spread to neighboring countries.


Nevertheless, the Taliban has rejected these concerns and repeatedly stated that ISIS activities in Afghanistan are under control, and the concerns raised by regional countries about the presence and movements of these groups lack any basis.

Local sources have told Exiled Television that Sanaullah Ghaffari, known as Shahab al-Mujahir and the leader of ISIS-Khorasan, has recently traveled to Kunar Province in Afghanistan.
