UN confirms 13 civilians killed in Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan

UNAMA announced on Wednesday (21 Jowza) via the social media platform X that these airstrikes took place on the nights of June 9 and 10 in the eastern Afghan provinces of Khost, Kunar, and Paktika.


This comes as Ataullah Tarar, Pakistan's Minister of Information and Media, had described the killing of civilians in his country's recent airstrikes as "propaganda" and denied it.


Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Afghan territory early Wednesday, targeting the provinces of Kunar, Khost, and Paktika, in which dozens of civilians were killed and wounded as a result; however, Pakistan says these operations were in response to recent deadly attacks against Pakistani forces in the tribal areas and were conducted in a "targeted manner based on precise intelligence information" against individuals affiliated with the TTP.


Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, stated that in these airstrikes, civilian homes in these provinces were bombed. He had previously announced that as a result of these incidents, 13 people were killed and another 14 were wounded.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) confirmed that, following Pakistan's airstrikes on Afghanistan, 13 civilians, including women and children, have been killed.
