UNICEF warns of deteriorating situation of children affected by earthquake in eastern Afghanistan

UNICEF stated: “The heavy snowfall overnight has made the already critical conditions for affected children even more difficult.”


The agency added that aid delivery to the people is continuing at present, but stressed that “needs are rapidly increasing and more immediate and broader support is urgently required.”


It is worth noting that following a 6.0-magnitude earthquake in the month of Sunbula this year, at least 2,200 people were killed and thousands more were injured and left homeless in eastern Afghanistan.


As a result of this earthquake, thousands of homes were destroyed in the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman, affecting approximately 500,000 people.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Friday released a video from eastern Afghanistan showing the dire situation of earthquake survivors whose tents have been buried under heavy snowfall.
